Employment assistance (social aid)

Responsibility : Ministère de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale

As a recipient, you must notify your CLE or the Bureau des renseignements et plaintes of your change of address, by completing the monthly statement attached to your employment assistance cheque or your direct deposit statement.

You should ask your local employment centre whether your change of address means that your file has to be transferred to another centre. If so, go to your new centre to request the transfer. You will be asked to provide the original of your lease or another proof of residence indicating your new address.

Note
FORMER RECIPIENTS having moved during the year

The ministère de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale (MESS) will not change the address it has on file for a person who is no longer receiving benefits under the program. The RL-5 slip (benefits and compensation) required for your income tax return will be mailed to the address specified in your employment assistance file while you were a recipient.

If you received employment assistance benefits during part of the year and you’ve since moved, you must notify the MESSF of your new address in order to receive your RL-5 slip. You can do so by:

  • Going or writing to the local employment centre that had been in charge of your file

  • Having your mail forwarded by Canada Post
  • You can also obtain a duplicate of your RL-5 slip from the local employment centre for the area in which your new address is located.
